SNIA Cloud Storage Summit

webinar

Held at the WINTER SYMPOSIUM 2009

There is no doubt that the topic of Cloud, Cloud Computing, Cloud Services or Cloud Storage, just to name a few variations, has the attention of many IT professionals, developers, marketeers, press and analysts. Why? Simply because it is rightly or wrongly perceived as a major shift in IT trends. The ability to remotely “borrow” for a fee various IT components, hardware or software, virtualized or real, through a specialized or open interface, is attracting many IT professionals, simple IT users, large corporations or SMB/SME. One can easily foresee the kind of impact it can have on more traditional IT operations in terms of resource management, adaptability and possibly on the benefits for the overall IT spending – but there’s no consensus about what the real benefits are. Storage is amongst the early services proposed by existing Cloud players, services providers and could technology providers, small and very large companies. Many questions already exist about Cloud Storage and other types of Cloud regarding the Enterprise readiness of such solutions, the co-existence of cloud resources with existing assets in the Enterprise, the management of SLA across multiple providers or the integration of different cloud services in a single production environment.

Since our inception in 1997, the SNIA has been addressing some of the hottest storage resource and data management challenges through the development of best practices, educational programs, software and industry standards. Our Winter Symposium was held on January 20-23 in San Jose, CA, representatives of the Storage industry and of the Cloud industry met to discuss and identify key IT industry developments to make Cloud Storage successful in the Enterprise and in other business segments.
