The SNIA Analytics and Big Data Committee (ABDC) is a new committee that is dedicated to fostering the growth and success of the market in Analytics and Big Data, and more generally, the use of data storage resources and services by analytics and big data applications and toolsets. New PCIe Taskforce Formed — Some 50 Companies Participating
The SNIA Solid State Storage Initiative (SSSI) has recently formed a new PCIe Taskforce whose goal is to provide guidance to the marketplace on PCIe SSDs and to coordinate with other industry organizations involved in PCIe SSD-related activities. The Taskforce is structured as an open industry forum for the initial 90 days of existence, and thereafter as a SSSI committee. Their first meeting was on April 9th. SNIA leaders and members of the SNIA Cloud Storage Initiative (CSI) will be exhibiting at and participating in the NIST Cloud Computing Forum and Workshop V, whose purpose is to provide a forum to share international government perspectives on Cloud Computing.

SMI Plugfests are held several times a year at the SNIA US Technology Center in Colorado Springs to test interoperability across SMI–S implementations, validate CTP test updates, and create proof–of–concept implementations of proposals for inclusion in the SMI–S standard. In addition, plugfests provide an opportunity to meet with peer developers and folks supporting commonly used CIMOMs.
The increasing use of the cloud for data protection, including backup, disaster recovery, archiving and long term preservation, brings many benefits to IT shops and also some challenges. The webcast will consist of a presentation covering the current state of the industry and use cases related to data protection in the cloud.
