Participate in SNIA’s Volunteer Recognition Program
Without the contributions, effort, time, and commitment of the SNIA volunteers, the vast majority of our organizational programs could not take root and flourish. Therefore, SNIA once again needs your help to recognize its active volunteers with our annual recognition program.
This is simple and will only take a moment. Please follow the link here to anonymously recommend those individuals or groups that you believe should be recognized. Honorees will be announced at SNIA’s Winter Symposium in San Jose, evening of January 29th and then subsequently featured on www.snia.org/about/awards.
Save the Date: SNIA Winter Symposium 2013
Attend SNIA’s Winter Symposium on January 28 – 31, 2013 in San Jose and join your colleagues for networking, working group meetings, keynote presentations from industry leading analysts, and other valuable workshops and sessions.
SNIA leaders and chairs are finalizing plans for workgroup, forum and initiative, and committee meetings, and the agenda will be released for your review shortly. In the meantime, registration is now open so confirm your plans!
SNIA Europe Launches NFS Webcast Series
The SNIA Ethernet Storage Forum (ESF) has launched a 4–part Webcast series on NFS (Network File System) for European audiences. The NFSv4 protocol undergoes a repeated lifecycle of definition and implementation. This Webcast series highlights how NFSv4.1 is being implemented, the differences between NFSv3 and NFSv4.1, pNFS, FedFS, understanding the NFS protocol and its application to modern datacenter workloads, and offers a preview into proposed features in NFSv4.2
The first Webcast, 4 Reasons to Start Working with NFSv4.1 Now is available on demand here.

New Committees and Programs Highlight SNIA Solid State Storage Initiative Activities
Focusing on solid state storage standards and education, the SNIA SSSI recently launched several activities for its members and for the community at large.
- SSSI’s PCIe SSD Subcommittee focuses on PCIe SSD standards, education and market development, specifications and product architectures. All SSSI members can participate in the committee, which meets every other Monday by conference call. Participants hear guest speakers on the latest developments in the technology and engage in committee work. For more information on the PCIe SSD Subcommittee, visit www.snia.org/forums/sssi/pcie.
- To enable the community to better understand their unique SSD I/O patterns, SSSI’s TechDev Subcommittee has just launched the Workload I/O Capture Program (WIOCP), a simple tool to capture software applications’ I/O operation activity that provides statistics on workloads at the user level. Specifically designed to be safely downloaded and used with corporate PCs, the WIOCP answers the question of what kind of traffic software is generating.
Both Subcommittee activities will be highlighted in the SSSI booth at the Storage Visions Conference, January 6–7, 2012 in Las Vegas, NV.
