Product Selection Guide Ready For Vendor Input in October

The Product Selection Guide (PSG) is a browser based application that can be accessed anywhere there is an internet connection. Any member of SNIA can update the information about their products at any time, ensuring their most current product information is available.

The PSG will allow the public to find products offered by SNIA member companies that meet their selection criteria. Reports can be viewed online or downloaded as a spreadsheet or a pdf.

Where To Find the Product Selection Guide

A link to the Product Selection Guide will be available at the DPCO public website. There is no cost to participate if you are a member of the Storage Networking Industry Association, and you can submit as many applicable products as you like. Participation in the DPCO committee is encouraged but is not required.

How To Submit Product Information

The PSG will focus on three categories of storage products:

  • Backup and Recovery Products
  • Capacity Optimized Storage Products
  • Replication Products or Features

Individuals representing SNIA member companies first obtain a username and password to access the vendor pages of the PSG application.

Vendor–specific information is entered once in a profile. This includes vendor name, logo and contact information.

Most product information is entered by selecting from defined values for ease of data entry and ready comparison. Free form text allows product–specific information to be added also.

Vendor submissions will be published online after a weekly conformity review by the DPCO committee. This review ensures the free form text is appropriate for general public viewing.

For Further Information

While the PSG provides a way for vendors to obtain help or provide other feedback to the DPCO Committee, they can also email the DPCO chair directly at dpco–[email protected].

Data protection hasn’t changed much in a long time. Sure, there are slews of product announcements and incessant declarations of the “next big thing”, but really, how much have market shares really changed over the past decade? No one wants to be locked into products because they are too painful to switch out; it’s time that products are “sticky” because they offer compelling solutions.
