Eclipse Aperi Storage Management Project

webinar

Eclipse is an open source community, whose projects are focused on building an open development platform comprised of extensible frameworks, tools and runtimes for building, deploying and managing software across the lifecycle. A large and vibrant ecosystem of major technology vendors, innovative start-ups, universities, research institutions and individuals extend, complement and support the Eclipse platform.

The Eclipse Aperi project has a mission to:

  • Create a vendor-neutral, open, storage management framework and to cultivate both an open-source community and an ecosystem for complementary products, capabilities, and services around the framework to promote greater consumer choice and foster competition.
  • Promote interoperability, eliminate complexity and incompatibility, foster greater opportunity for innovation, and provide a greater choice and added-value functionality for end-users.

The project will include an implementation of the SNIA SMI Specification. This project intends to increase the adoption of SMI-S enabled products into the marketplace, as well as increase the number of SMI-S features that the products implement.

SNIA and the Eclipse Aperi Project

The scope of activity for this alliance is focused on SNIA's Storage Management Initiative (SMI) and the new work just started on Management Frameworks (MF). This alliance partnership allows the Eclipse Foundation and SNIA to collaborate to further the adoption of storage management standards. Eclipse-Aperi's participation will be primarily to bring their open source software implementation to the SNIA as an SMI-S and MF conformant implementation, available to all who desire to use it.

Joint education and marketing will also be major opportunities for both organizations as we strive to educate the industry relative to SMI-S and MF standards and conformant products and perform outreach to attract end users.
